Your First Workspace
Everything you do in TimeCampus happens inside a workspace — the container that owns membership, roles, and data. This guide covers signing in, choosing the right kind of workspace, and the settings that make it yours.
TimeCampus is generally available — create an account at app.timecampus.com.
TimeCampus uses the Burdenoff platform identity — a single sign-on (SSO) account shared across the platform's products:
- Open the app at app.timecampus.com.
- Sign in with your platform account (or the identity provider your organization has connected).
- If you belong to more than one workspace, pick the one you want to work in.
Because identity is platform-level, one sign-in carries across every surface — you don't manage a separate TimeCampus password, and your organization's access policies apply automatically.
What a workspace is
A workspace is the boundary for everything:
| The workspace owns | What that means |
|---|---|
| Membership | Who can access the workspace at all |
| Roles & permissions | What each member can see and do — enforced on every operation (see Access control) |
| Data | Time entries, projects, reports, and settings live inside the workspace and are isolated from every other workspace |
| Governance | Audit trails, retention, and billing apply per workspace |
Nothing leaks across workspaces. Time you track in one workspace is invisible from another.
Personal vs shared workspaces
| Personal workspace | Shared / team workspace | |
|---|---|---|
| Who's in it | Just you | Your team or organization |
| Best for | Individual tracking, freelancing, study time | Team capacity planning, approvals, client work |
| Visibility | Private to you | Role-based; team-level views are aggregate by design |
| Approvals | Not usually needed | Timesheet submission & approval workflows |
Start personal if you're exploring on your own. Use a shared workspace when a team needs common projects, approvals, and aggregate planning views — individual-level detail stays protected by the privacy model even inside a shared workspace.
Workspace configuration
Workspaces carry their own settings, managed by workspace admins. Configuration values are scoped:
| Scope | Applies to | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Workspace | Every member of the workspace | Default billable behaviour, workspace-wide conventions |
| User | Just you, inside that workspace | Your own view and tracking preferences |
Admins set workspace-level values once and they apply across the product; sensitive values can be marked as secret so they're gated from members who shouldn't see them. If you're a member rather than an admin, you'll mostly interact with configuration indirectly — the settings panels you use are backed by it.
The app remembers your view
TimeCampus persists your UI session per user — so the experience resumes where you left off:
- The active view you were last on
- Your view preferences — filters, layout choices, dashboard state
- All of it per user, across devices — sign in on another machine and your working view comes back
There's nothing to enable; it happens as you use the app. If you ever want a clean slate, you can reset your saved view state from your preferences and the UI returns to defaults.
Switching workspaces
If you belong to several workspaces (say, a personal one and your team's), use the workspace switcher in the app to move between them. Each workspace keeps:
- Its own data — entries, projects, reports
- Its own roles — you might be an admin in one and a member in another
- Its own saved view state — your preferences are remembered per user, so each context feels the way you left it
Next steps
- Track your first time entry — the timer, manual entries, and where they show up
- Dashboard — compose your at-a-glance view
- Access control — roles and permissions in depth
