Life balance and targets
Open Life Balance at /timecampus/life-balance to compare recorded time across life domains with the balance targets you set. Without targets, the view describes where recorded time went; it does not invent an ideal balance.
Life domains are not timeline categories
Timeline categories describe the kind of activity: MEETING, COMMUNICATION, DEEP_WORK, BREAK or OTHER. Life domains describe the part of life it belongs to:
WORK, SLEEP, HEALTH, FAMILY, LEARNING, LEISURE, COMMUTE, WAITING, CHORES, SELF_CARE, SOCIAL, FINANCE_ADMIN, REFLECTION, and OTHER.
These are different axes. A work meeting has category Meeting and domain Work. A manually logged family activity belongs to Family without needing to be classified as a work meeting. Time entries, meetings, Pomodoro and email activity roll up to Work; capture events can carry an explicit life domain. Do not use the work-category breakdown as a substitute for life balance.
How targets become shares
Set a desired number of hours per week for each domain you want to target. Each target must be positive and no greater than 168 hours. The comparison normalises the targets into desired shares; it does not reserve calendar time.
For example, Work at 30 hours and Family at 10 hours become desired shares of 75% and 25% across those targets. They do not imply that the remaining 128 hours of the week were tracked or assigned. Targets may sum to more than 168 hours, but that does not make the schedule feasible: the shares are still normalised against the total entered.
Actual share is a domain's covered time divided by all covered time in the selected range. The gap is actual share minus desired share. A negative gap means the domain is below its relative target. A target domain with no recorded time still appears with an actual share of zero.
Unaccounted time is shown separately. Within a domain, overlapping intervals are counted once; total covered time also uses an interval union. If different domains overlap, each may include that interval, so domain shares are not guaranteed to add up to 100%.
If the life-profile preference to treat breaks as self-care is enabled, Life Balance maps Break-category segments to Self-care before summarising. Do not assume that this changes the underlying events or every other analytics view.
Privacy and interpretation
Life balance and balance targets are self-only within the workspace. The operations derive your identity from the caller and scope reads and target updates to your own records. Other members cannot select your life balance through these views. This does not change permissions on source work records.
Targets express your preferences, not an employer's performance requirement or a health standard. Correct missing or misclassified records in the life timeline before interpreting a shortfall. Time well spent uses the targets to compare proportions; recommendations can flag a large gap.
